my mala lanyard from Mala for Vets

A few weeks ago I had my new teacher ID taken (yay!). It was given to me on a nylon cord and to be worn everyday around my neck. Being an artist and someone who loves jewelry...I was especially frustrated by my new accessory; how it looked and how it felt. I took to the internet to find an ID lanyard that was both stylish and had some meaning to inspire me; after all I will be wearing it EVERY day! I am an art teacher, however I am also a certified yoga instructor, and have taken to wearing many different mala bead bracelets to help with my personal centering and well being. I then thought, what if I could find a mala bead lanyard, all in one! So I came across Mala for Vets and asked the owner and Air Force Veteran Chris Eder, if he could create a custom lanyard. I told him a little about myself, but really left if up to him to create a piece for me, with meaning and aesthetics... and he was also nice enough to work with my "teacher" budget. Thank you so much Chris for my new accessory, I love it! If any of you other teachers and/or yogis are looking for a special piece, please check out Chris's website. His creations are wonderful.

Many changes have happened since I last posted a blog. A new chapter has begun as I start the school year in a new state (hello Colorado!) and in my very own art room. It feels as if we have been on a roller coaster the past few weeks, but things are starting to settle down and I am gearing up for the school year with my students. I am truly excited to start the year with them and I want to make sure my students have everything they need to succeed, that is why I just posted the project Shape, Color & Carpet in the Art Room...Oh My! on DonorsChoose.org. Please take a moment to check it (and other projects) out. If you know someone or an organization looking to donate to help students, schools and the arts, I would appreciate you passing along my project! Also, if you give to my classroom by August 2, 2014, your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code INSPIRE on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $100). If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks (Bonus!) Thanks so much for taking the time to read and check out my project.
